Overview
Andrellos C. Mitchell is the principal of Apex Legal Services, PLLC, a
Washington, D.C.–based law practice serving individuals, professionals
businesses, and organizations in civil litigation and related legal matters.
Mr. Mitchell began his legal career after being admitted to the Pennsylvania Bar in 1994 and was subsequently admitted to the District of Columbia Bar in 2001.
He founded his private law practice in 1997, which continues today as Apex Legal Services, PLLC.
With nearly three decades of legal experience, Mr. Mitchell has represented hundreds of clients in matters involving civil litigation, higher education commercial and residential real estate disputes, federal employment law government investigations and audits, probate and estate litigation, contracts mediation, arbitration, and small-business matters.
Mr. Mitchell has litigated matters in state and federal courts and has represented clients in cases involving major national and international law firms. His practice emphasizes practical legal analysis, direct client communication, and efficient resolution of disputes whenever possible.
In addition to his legal practice, Mr. Mitchell is a writer and publisher whose legal and public-affairs commentary has appeared in or been cited by national, regional and local media.
Experience
Mr. Mitchell founded his private law practice in 1997. Apex Legal Services, PLLC continues that practice today.
Throughout his career, Mr. Mitchell has represented clients in a broad range of civil matters, from discrete contractual and transactional disputes to contested litigation in state and federal courts.
From 2007 through 2015, Mr. Mitchell served as Court-Appointed Counsel in the Probate Division of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. In that capacity he represented parties in guardianship, conservatorship, probate, and estate matters.
Earlier in his professional career, Mr. Mitchell worked as a Fraud Examiner for the District of Columbia Department of Insurance, Securities, and Banking (DISB) where his work involved matters concerning insurance fraud.
His early legal experience also included service as a Law Clerk with the American Civil Liberties Union's National Prison Project and as a Legal Intern with the
Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia.

Mr. Mitchell was an NCAA Division III Track and Field All-American (1986) and Penn Relays gold medalist (1984) while at Frostburg State College, now Frostburg State University. He was also a four-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference track and field champion while attending Mount Union College, now the University of Mount Union, earning All-OAC Champion honors in the indoor 600-yard dash, indoor mile relay, outdoor 400-meter dash, and outdoor mile relay in 1983. His outdoor mile-relay team won the conference title, and he was a member of Mount Union's indoor and outdoor OAC championship teams that year.
While at Frostburg State, Mr. Mitchell pledged Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and later served as vice president of his college chapter.
Outside of his professional work, Mr. Mitchell has wide-ranging interests that include running and fitness, dining, film, opera, classical music, and the arts.
He particularly enjoys thoughtful conversation and the exchange of ideas on politics, culture, entertainment, religion, and the social issues shaping contemporary life.
